Family Mediation Training and Practical Experience

On-line and On-demand learning combining time-management instruction and self-management learning with the support of family mediation experts.

We designed our courses to provide professionals with the knowledge they require to manage the dynamics of the individuals and families for which they will work in family mediation. All training courses are presented via a user-friendly learning management system that includes on-demand lectures, live training via zoom and a weekly “Info in the Open” session with experts in the field. Courses with live tutorials provide excellent coaching. All courses are designed to meet the requirements of the  Ontario Association of Family Mediation (OAFM).

Self-management allows session completion with each course at your own pace with guided lessons, including weekly “Info in the Open” discussion sessions.

Mediator-In-Training (MIT) Program

100 hours of Supervised Practical Experience

Certificate Program candidates are also often successful in obtaining necessary accreditation experience, supervised by experienced mediators, in our Mediator-In-Training (MIT) Program, inclusive of the required 100 hours of Supervised Practical Experience that is live with real clients and real experienced mediators, to prepare you for the real career as a OAFM Accredited Family Mediator.

Accredited Mediator Program

The Ontario Association for Family Mediation (OAFM) accreditation serves as a vital credential that sets apart mediators who possess the necessary training, qualifications, and insurance from those who do not. To work with one of Ontario’s family mediation programs linked to the courts, obtaining this accreditation is typically a prerequisite. 

This extensive program offers the essential coursework and supervised practical experience needed to fulfill the training requirements for submitting your accreditation application to the OAFM.

Online Registration: 

To register for any of our programming, you will be required to set up a username and password, which you will establish through the Site registration process. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the password and account and are responsible for all activities that occur under your password or account. You must notify Mediation Centre Ontario Inc. / MCOI.com immediately of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security and ensure that you exit from your account at the end of each session. Mediation Centre Ontario Inc. / MCOI.com is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your password or account information.

Course Packages:

Course packages offer a structured approach to learning, with clear cancellation and refund policies designed to accommodate registrants’ needs. If a cancellation request is submitted more than 14 days prior to the first course, a 15% administration fee on the early bird cost of the first course and a 5% fee on the remaining package cost will apply, with the rest refunded. For requests made within 14 days of the course start date, refunds are discretionary, factoring in various costs, while the remaining package fees will incur a 5% processing fee. No refunds will be issued for requests made after the course begins or after access to materials is granted, although the balance of the package will be refunded as per the outlined policy.

Cancellation Policy:

Our cancellation policy for individual courses is designed to provide clarity and fairness to participants. If a cancellation request is made more than 14 days prior to the course start date, a 15% administration fee will be deducted from the overall course fee, with the remaining balance refunded. For requests made within 14 days of the start date, refunds will be considered at our discretion, taking into account various costs incurred. Please note that no refunds will be issued once the course has commenced or access to materials has been granted. Refunds will be processed within 30 business days of the request. We also reserve the right to modify program details or cancel courses, ensuring a full refund in such cases, while amounts under $20 will neither be charged nor refunded.

Strict guidelines are in place to protect course integrity, including prohibitions on unauthorized recording and sharing of materials. Students are encouraged to engage respectfully in live chats, fostering a collaborative environment while adhering to a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination. The course emphasizes personal responsibility, urging students to report any inappropriate behavior and to engage thoughtfully in discussions, recognizing the adult nature of the learning environment.  By participating, individuals contribute to the development of a comprehensive resource that showcases the value of the courses provided. Participants in the courses offered by Mediation Centre Ontario Inc. (MCOI) grant permission for the use of photographs and videos captured during the sessions.
